UK Trip 2025 - Part 1

As usual on my trips, I take the opportunity to photograph planes when I can.   I flew via Kuala Lumpur and Istanbul into Birmingham again.  i prefer this route as none of the flights are overly long and customs at Birmingham is so much easier than Heathrow

I had a couple of hours daylight at Kuala Lumpur, so took a quick walk around to see what was there. First was a China Southern Airlines Boeing 737 Max, then, parked away from the terminal was a Shenzhen Airlines Airbus A320.  I was happy to see a Japan Airlines Boeing 767 as these are normally used on domestic flight within Japan.    Next was an Indonesian budget carrier Super Air Jet A320 and my last photo before the light faded a Vietnam Airlines Airbus A321

I arrive in Istanbul in the dark, and must wait a couple of hours for sunrise, which only gives a short window before i board my flight to Birmingham.    Luckily my gate faced the runway, so I grabbed a couple of photos before boarding.  A Turkish Airlines Airbus A330, a pretty Sichuan Airlines A330, an Uzbekistan Airways Boeing 767 and a Transavia A320.

My first oportunity for spotting in the UK was at Luton. This is a busy airport with many budget, package holiday and private jet flights in and out every day.  I stay in a hotel overlooking the apron on one side an the western end of the runway the other.   Amongst others on the apron were Embraer ERJ-135 LX-TRO and Gulfstream 450 N450MB.

From my room that evening I saw A320s from easyJet, Israir, Tradeair and Danair before an ELAL Boeing 737 landed.

I was at Luton for a few days as I had tickets for the flying day at Duxford and airshow at Old Warden, both of which were easy drives from Luton.  There was a good selection of planes coming and going including a Scottich Ambulance Service Beech 200, a Bahamiam Gulfstream 650, and a Bombardier Global  and Boeing 737 BBJ both owned by Indian company Reliance Industries.

Other interesting planes were an Air X Mitsubishi CRJ-200, a Pilatus PC-24 with its bold geomatric design livery, an all white Airbus A300 freighter operated by Slovenian carrier Solinair and Guernsey registered Challenger 604 2-NITE

Sunday morning was very unusual, as amongst the airliners a number of light aircraft arrived for an ATC familiarisation session.   I am not sure what this entailed.  First to arrive was Long-Eze G-LUKE followed by a DHL freighter then an Isaacs Fury, a Super Cub and three Chipmunks!  Over the next hour or so at least 15 small planes arrived.

However it was soon back to normal with an Isle of Man registered Boeing 737 BBJ,  a Chinese Bombardier Global, a San Marino registered PC-24 (even though there is no airport in San Marino) and a Piaggio P-180 with it's unusual "pusher" configuration.

More to follow soon.......
