Final Qantas flight to Mount Gambier

Yesterday saw the operation of the final Qantas flight between Adelaide and Mount Gambier, the second largest city in South Aistralia.    My friend Ryan and I decided to fly down and back.   I was happy to do so to add the De Havilland DHC-8-400 to my list of aircraft I had flown in.

We departed from Gate 50 at Adelaide Airport, and were soon on our way.     We took off over Glenelg, turning south over the southern suburbs and beaches and over the Murray Mouth.  As we continued, the clouds built up.

After landing, we spoke to the crew and Captain Nick and First Officer James were happy for us to take a photo in the cockpit.  The ground crew at Mount Gambier were visibly upset to lose this route, and took photos with the aircrew on the tarmac.

The flight back was very similar until we approached Adelaide where we came in over the hills, passing the North-Estern suburbs, over our beautiful city before landing back in Adelaide.

Hopefully, once everything settles down in the middle East, Qantas will resume this vital service to the South East.
