Barossa Airshow 2025

Today was the Barossa airshow.  This little airshow is organised by the Barossa Rotary Club and all proceeds go to local charities.   This years main beneficiary is The Royal Flying Doctor Service.

As usual, the "warm up" act is the local model aircraft club.  They flew a mix of jet and propeller powered models.   They are around 2 metres (6 feet) in length, and some of them can cost in excess of $10,000

The airshow was officially opened with the arrival of the Australian flag, and singing the National Anthem.

The RAAF Roulettes displayed, but unfortunately could only provide 2 aircraft rather than the usual 6.  Even so, the display was exciting, and one of the pilots was a local whose interest in aviation started at the model aircraft club here.

As usual, there was a good mix of aircraft old and new, civil and military. These included a 1940s Piper Cub, the odd looking Republic SeaBee amphibian, the Slovakian Shark, Jim Whalley's immaculate CAC Boomerang, a 1930s Stinson Reliant, A Yak-52 and a1940's Boeing Stearman trainer.

The sole helicopter on display was the Westland Gazelle based at Parafield

The local aerobatics team, the Silver Sharks put on an excellent show, including loops, rolls, and the obligatory gasp from the crowd for the opposition pass.

More aerobatics were performed by a Pitts S-1-11 and a CAP 232

The show was closed by ex test pilot Jim Whalley in his SIAI-Marchetti S.211 jet trainer.

I'll finish with a highly cropped shot of aerobatic pilot Lyndon Trethewey working hard in his CAP 232

A great little airshow as usual!
